Chrysler 200, Jeep Cherokee receive standard stop/start on certain models

Chrysler has announced it will add its start/stop technology as standard equipment on certain Chrysler 200 and Jeep Cherokee trim levels for 2015.

Billed as a measure to improve fuel economy figures across the board by three per cent, Chrysler says its fuel-saving technology will be available on 2015 Jeep Cherokees equipped with the 3.2-litre Pentastar V6 engine, but not on models powered by the 2.4-litre inline-four.

As for the Chrysler 200 sedan, the stop/start system will be available on four-cylinder models, but not on range-topping models equipped with the 3.6-litre V6. Chrysler is expected to make the changes starting with 200s manufactured in the fourth quarter this year, while the stop/start system will be added to Cherokees in the third quarter.

Chrysler's stop/start system works much like any other system out there; the engine is shut off when the vehicle comes to a stop and starts back up when the driver begins to release pressure on the brake pedal.
