2015 Jeep Renegade wants you to reimagine the brand

Smaller, fuel-efficient Jeep makes its official North American debut in New York

Making its world debut last month at the Geneva Motor Show, the new 2015 Jeep Renegade makes its North American premiere here in the Big Apple. One size smaller than the new-last-year compact Jeep Cherokee crossover, the subcompact Renegade asks you to rethink the Jeep brand in several ways.

First off, the four-door, five-passenger Renegade has been designed to save fuel. Two four-cylinder gas engines, available with either front- or all-wheel-drive will be offered when the Jeep crossover goes on-sale in Canada as a 2015 model.

If you want to shift gears on your own, you'll need the Renegade's 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder gas engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. If you can't manage a clutch pedal, opt for the 2.4L unit. It makes 184 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque, and uses a "segment first" nine-speed automatic.

Despite its diminutive size and obvious urban driving appeal, the Fiat-Chrysler brand is going out of its way to let you know that its Renegade can indeed be driven off-road.

Two all-wheel-drive systems will be available: full-time Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low, with its "class-exclusive" full-time 4×4 system. Both systems include Jeep Selec-Terrain, which offers up five drive modes (Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud modes, plus exclusive Rock mode on the Trail hawk model)
